Wood is a living, natural material. Every knot, grain line, colour variation, and tiny imperfection tells the story of the tree it came from. These natural features are part of the charm and individuality of solid wood; no two pieces will ever be the same.
Because wood continues to move and respond to its environment, it may subtly change over time. This is completely normal and part of the beauty of owning a natural product.
Natural Characteristics of Wood
Solid wood naturally expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity. This can occasionally cause:
Minor shrinkage or swelling
Hairline cracks
Small gaps at joints
Subtle movement in the grain
These changes may appear and disappear with the seasons. They are not structural defects, but natural characteristics of real wood. Your item is not for outdoor use.
Day‑to‑Day Use
Your item has been finished with a food‑safe, child‑safe oil that provides a durable, water‑repellent surface. To keep it looking its best:
Protecting Your Item
Use placemats and coasters where appropriate; they help protect against heat and moisture.
Avoid placing hot items directly onto the wood.
Wipe up spills immediately to prevent staining or water marks.
Cleaning
Clean using a damp (not wet) cloth.
Always dry thoroughly afterwards.
Never submerge your item in water.
Do not place wooden items in the dishwasher.
Avoid all cleaning chemicals, abrasive sponges, or harsh materials, these can damage the finish.
A Note on Wood’s Porosity
Wood is naturally porous and will try to absorb liquids. Quick cleaning and proper care will help preserve the finish and longevity of your piece.
